There is little argument that Zambia is Africa’s premier walking safari destination, with an unrivalled combination of unspoiled locations, exceptional guides and diverse wildlife. Given that the North Luangwa’s walks are the wildest and most remote in Zambia, with the most specialised walking guides, you can imagine just how thrilling these walking safaris can be. In an area of pristine wilderness with few roads, the majority of activities are done on foot, offering ample opportunity to see the variations in flora and fauna and to experience the bush with all your senses.

Buffalo roam in large numbers, and with lions aplenty, the game viewing is exciting and raw, as these sworn lifelong enemies battle for territory and life itself. Cookson’s wildebeest, endemic to the Luangwa Valley, are also abundant, with huge herds gathering at the dwindling water sources as the dry season takes hold. Other species present in significant numbers include spotted hyenas, which often hunt puku in full view of Mwaleshi Camp. Operated by the outstanding Remote Africa Safaris, who also offer some of the South Luangwa’s finest walking trails, North Luangwa walks are as authentic as it gets!
