Shenton Safaris’ elephant hide resides up an ebony tree close to Kaingo Camp, with sweeping views of the Luangwa River. The platform has been split into two levels connected by a ladder, the lower one simply a daytime observation deck, and the higher level offering a makeshift bedroom. Although a relatively small space and very much open to the South Luangwa night, the sleeping area is cosy and welcoming, with a wash basin, lanterns and a comfortable king sized bed, while a long drop toilet is available at the bottom of the hide.

Guests are taken to the hide after dinner at Kaingo, and an armed scout stays nearby at ground level, in case of a change of heart or urgent request. After a night under the stars listening to nocturnal calls and activities before a deep, peaceful sleep, you can choose to either be picked up early for a game viewing activity, or spend a little longer to languidly enjoy the early morning views. We recommend booking this activity in advance, especially for peak season stays, as it is very popular.
