Located on the edge of the South Luangwa National Park in the central Luangwa region is a classic safari lodge, Kafunta River Lodge. Overlooking a great floodplain of the Luangwa River, Kafunta offers great game viewing and bird watching from the comfort of the camp.

Strung out along the river bank with stunning views, Kafunta accommodates 20 guests in 10 thatched chalets raised on wooden platforms. Tastefully decorated with African style and charm, the chalets are spacious and the luxury chalets feature an upstairs viewing verandah and luxurious bathroom. Each chalet includes en-suite facilities with hot and cold running water, mosquito nets, electric fans, tea and coffee facilities and private verandahs. Central to the lodge is a thatched and spacious, open sided lounge and dining area with a tall old semi-evergreen wild mango tree in the centre. A camp fire is lit each evening and a spacious wooden deck overlooks an active waterhole with uninterrupted views. A wildlife hide under the deck is the perfect place for photography or birding. A feature of the lodge is a unique hot spring fed from a completely natural geothermal source on Kafunta’s grounds. With an average temperature of 37 degrees this is the perfect ending to an eventful day, especially during the cooler winter months. The lodge has a pontoon river crossing 5 minutes from camp for access into Luangwa National Park (park gates are otherwise 10km north of the camp).

Kafunta offers refreshing and relaxing Spa treatments (additional cost). Lodge activities include morning and afternoon/evening game drives as well as guided walking safaris on request.
